AWESOME AGING
Aging is inevitable, but it doesn't meant we have to 'get old'.
Laughter and joy have an amazingly positive impact on how we age.
This program was first developed, by Bron, to support her mother as she experienced the cognitive and physical decline that was a part of her aging experience. It's impact, not only on her own mother and herself, but also the other residents, staff and families who shared the program in the age care facility where her mother spent her final months, was remarkable.
After her mother's journey had ended, sharing the Awesome Aging to the wider community became Bron's passion project. It also became the foundation for her journey into psychology, neuro-science, humour and laughter as therapy, and all that the SMILE Project® offers.
Suitable for anyone who is, or is thinking about aging, from community groups, those in retirement living and residential age care, to carers and care givers of all types, Awesome Aging offers a combination of chair based Laughter Yoga with the Science of Laughter in an atmosphere of absolute joy.
Awesome aging is presented as a 45 minute one-off or on-going program and as a information filled program for staff and community groups,
and it serves as a reminder that we don't stop playing because we get old, we get old because we stop playing.
*The most reported benefits of Laughter is that it connects us with others and it makes us feel great.
Science also tells us that it reduces stress and anxiety, boosts the immune system, re-energises the body and mind, makes us feel more confident, helps build resilience and boost coping skills, inspires creativity, boosts memory, creates more engaged workplace environments, reduces staff turn over, and it even helps us sleep better and makes us look younger (yes, the neuro-science nerd in us makes us happy to talk telomeres!)
Bron, has over 20 years experience studying and sharing the benefits of laughter and its impact on the joyous mindset with clients around Australia and overseas.
She's a Laughter Yoga Wellbeing Master Trainer, a Global Laughter Yoga Ambassador, and Australia's only Certified Humour Professional.
Her curiosity about the impact of joy on laughter on mental and physical health and wellbeing has inspired her ongoing study of psychology, postive psychology, behavioural, cognitive and neuro-science, humour as both a therapeutic and leadership strategy, her multiple trips to Bhutan to study Gross National Happiness, and has seen her volunteer 20 years of conscutive Saturdays to run Australia's oldest and most popular community laughter group.
