The movement
The SMILE Project ® - simple stories about sharing kindness and joy because sometimes that's just what we need.
It all started in on a blistering hot day in Perth in Western Australia in 1994. It was a week after my mother had left this earthly plane.
It started with nothing more than a smile shared with a stranger, and the recognition that sometimes all we need is to feel connected to someone else. No conversation needed, just a shared smile. A shared smile that made the world of difference to me, and I learned later that day, a world of difference to the stranger who returned my smile.
12 months later the SMILE Project® had grown into a facebook based movement with over 50,000 members, until a internet troll destroyed it all - not smiley. Enter Covid and suddenly, we needed connection more than ever. The SMILE Project® facebook page was resurrected, as, as it was always meant to be, my way of remining myself to share smiles, simple hello's and random conversations with strangers, and to share the stories in the hope others might be inspired to do similar acts of what I like to call kindfulness - that mindful kindness that makes the world a happier place.
To us it all begins, just as the movement did, with a smile.
